Painting: Process Pictures of Madame Butterfly

There are process pictures of a painting I did a couple months ago, based on the opera Madame Butterfly by Puccini.

Pardon the low quality...

Anouk Jonker Etsy Store

I've jumped on the bandwagon and opened a little online Etsy store! With only a few items at the moment, the store will feature cards, drawings, prints, and possibly small study paintings. Stay posted for more items.

Painting: Chickadee Pallet Painting

As a followup to the previous post & description, here's a little painting of a chickadee that I made in the Netherlands. Incorporating the pallet, like the extra brush strokes in the barn study, documents the creative process. More oiseaux to come.

Painting: Barn Study I

I've been experimenting in the studio with incorporating my process onto the canvas. For example, several pieecs (including Evolution of a Magpie) have their pallets right on the painting. This barn study, based on an old farm nearby, includes all of the extra brush strokes I used to clean my brush. Usually, these extra brush strokes and paint are either off the canvas, or covered up! I think these abstract strokes, alongside the representational barn, are an interesting and dynamic combination. But these "process pieces" have only just begun, with many more underway...

Artist Residency - Kent Harrison Arts Council

For one year, I can call Harrison Hot Springs my home! Located on Harrison Lake in beautiful British Columbia, I'll be spending my weeks working at the gallery (pictured below), painting, and exploring the wilderness. Though I hope to spend most of my time in my studio, this little town hosts sporadic festivals and concerts to keep me entertained. I've also adopted two furry monsters, Jesse and James, to make sure I won't get too lonely here in the woods.

Artist: Natalya Lobanova

Sometimes there's a lull in my creativity or I'm "saving up" recent work to present in one big bang, so I find myself without blog material! This is the first post presenting an artist that I think deserves a glance. From emerging to professional artists, from contemporary to classical art, only time will tell who will pop up on this blog.

Presenting Natalya Lobanova, a young artist from the UK with a poetic twist. It's easy to forget that art doesn't need to be so serious! I always appreciate the simplicity of her clever drawings, which she posts on Tumblr.

40th Annual Mind & Matter Arts Festival

This year, I exhibited at my first outdoor art fair during the 40th Mind and Matter Arts Festival. On a beautiful 5-acre property near White Rock, BC, the festival is a four day event that hosts 100 artist and welcomes thousands of visitors. All the artists are given a little plot on which to display their art, and all the plots are uniquely nestled into the wooded backyard. It was a heck of a lot of fun, and I highly recommend both visiting and exhibiting at this event.
