Hohenstein: Artist Residency Exhibition in Hersbruck

Alte Schule Hohenstein artist residency, Sophiste, organized an exhibition in the nearby town of Hersbruck. The show will feature artworks collected from residents over the last two years. If only I could pop over to Germany for a day!

Below, a photo (credit to Alte Schule Hohenstein) of the opening from February 2nd. It is very exciting to see works on display from artists I had the pleasure of working with.

Studio Visit: Bernd Wagner in Lauf, Germany

Bernd Wagner, Atelier

In May, the four Alte Schule artists visit Bernd in Lauf, Germany. A first-hand look at the studio and creative process offered insights into his tactile work! Often using found objects, his sculptures and his home are put together with material that has a more complicated history than you may think.

He also introduced is to his native town, Lauf, including the under-city network of cellar caves.

Hohenstein Part 4: Photos

Snapshots from the Alte Schule artist residency in Hohenstein, May - June 2016.

Hohenstein Artist Residency Part 3 // May June 2016

Alte Schule Artist Residency

I have spent six beautiful weeks in Hohenstein, Germany. The small town in the Bavarian countryside fills up on the weekends with tourists hoping to visit the little local castle. The weather oscillates between sun and lightning storms, and everything has exploded into lush greenery.

The residency takes place in an old schoolhouse (Alte Schule) that has been converted into a creative production zone. Thanks to Sophist's Chris Rupp, artists from all over the world have an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Franconian culture. I will never be the same again.

Learn more about the residency program on their website. Listed are the other artists that have overlapped with me:

Part 2: Omata Tomoko: Rock Installation at Hohenstein

★✌✈

'Ouma' was a fellow artist at the Alte-Schule Hohenstein artist residency during May 2016. Here are a few photographs of the residents (myself, Brad Gray, and Chris Rupp) helping her document a colourful rock installation on the Hohenstein Castle. More of her work can be seen on her website.
